The area
Selong Belanak sits west of Kuta along the south coast road. Its wide, sheltered bay has soft sand and gentle, consistent waves, which makes it one of the best places in Indonesia to learn to surf. Surf schools line the beach, and in the late afternoon it is common to see water buffalo being walked along the sand.
The area has a handful of boutique resorts and beach clubs, a few warungs and cafés, and a growing number of private villas on the surrounding hills. It is quieter than Kuta, with fewer shops and services.
Nearby
- Mawi: a powerful reef break for experienced surfers, a short drive west.
- Tampah and Mawun: quieter bays to the east, on the way to Kuta.
- Kuta Lombok: roughly half an hour or more by road, for restaurants and services.
The property market
Selong Belanak is one of the south coast's premium addresses. Hillside villas with views of the bay are popular with holiday renters, particularly couples and families who want a beautiful beach without the crowds. Prices for land with a view are generally high by Lombok standards, which pushes many buyers to look at the hills and bays nearby.
Who it suits
- Holiday-home buyers who want a calm, swimmable beach
- Rental investors targeting couples and families
- Buyers happy to drive to Kuta for services
What to check
- Road access up the hill, especially in the wet season
- Whether the view is protected, or could be built out below you
- Water supply and power reliability
- The usual due diligence from the off-plan checklist
